Covina Post Office to be Dedicated in Honor of Most Decorated Female Veteran in U.S. Military History

Washington, D.C. -  Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (CA-32) will participate in the dedication of the Lillian Kinkela Keil Post Office in the city of Covina.  Keil, the most decorated female veteran in U.S. military history, was a flight nurse for the U.S. Army Air Corps (now the Air Force) during World War II and the Korean War.

Keil, who was called an “Airborne Florence Nightingale,” flew 425 combat evacuation missions, including many in Normandy during the D-Day invasion where she helped thousands of wounded U.S. soldiers from battle fields.

Legislation introduced by Congresswoman Solis to name the Covina post office in honor of Keil was singed into law on March 20, 2006 (Public Law 109-199).  She died of cancer at age 88 last year.
