Azusa, Calif. - Today, Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis (CA-32) and officials with the El Proyecto del Barrio Azusa Health Center and the City of Azusa celebrated the signing of a 25-year lease between the city and El Proyecto del Barrio.
In 2002, the Azusa Clinic closed its doors as a result of budget cuts in Los Angeles County. But it reopened as Azusa Health Center, a project of El Proyecto del Barrio in 2003.
“During a time when the health care gap for Latinos is widening, organizations like El Proyecto are making health care more accessible,” said Congresswoman Solis. “As an advocate in Congress for eliminating disparities in health care and improving our quality of life, it is encouraging to see a partnership such as this one that helps improves the quality of health care for our community.”
Solis advocated on behalf of El Proyecto del Barrio to secure the Section 330 designation (Federally Qualified Health Center) which will allow for the clinic to expand its services. As a result, the clinic has received $650,000 through the Department of Health and Human Services’ New Access Point Grant Initiative.
The clinic has also received grant funding from the California Community Foundation and Kaiser Permanente and there are plans to expand services to provide dental care. |
