Solis Announces Art Competition Winners

East Los Angeles, CA - Today, Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis announced the winners of this year’s 32nd Congressional District Artistic Discovery Competition during a reception at East Los Angeles College.  

This year’s winners are:

 

1st Place: Chen Lin Yung Chang, Arroyo High School from El Monte

2nd Place: Melinda Chiem, Sierra Vista High School from Baldwin Park

3rd Place: Mirna Castro, North Park High School from Baldwin Park

Honorable Mention: Jonathan Nguyen, Arroyo High School from El Monte Congressional Mention: Anthony Curiel, Sierra Vista High School from Baldwin Park

 

“I am pleased that this year’s art competition reflected the diversity of our community. As a Member of Congress, I am proud to support the artistic talents of our local youth and I thank them for sharing their gifts with everyone,” said Congresswoman Solis. “I encourage them to continue following their dreams. Any dream worth having is a dream worth achieving.”

 

First prize winner Yung Chang will be flown to Washington, D.C. for a national reception and to view his artwork displayed in the nation’s Capitol. The second and third place winners will receive prizes from local merchants and will have their art displayed in Congresswoman Solis’ Washington, D.C. and El Monte offices.

 

In total, 107 pieces of art were submitted for the competition. Since 1982, Members of Congress have conducted local art competitions in their districts.
